Just wondering. The CNN guy has been calling this remarkable throughout the whole post show. Why is this so extraordinary? Daming to our political system?
Probably because it's not your typical debate format. No gotcha moments, no reminders of what past postitions and gaffes, debate moderators looking for that "gold" soundbite.
I wish they (well, obama) would agree to more of these types of forum. I can understand by his performance tonight why he doesn't want to.

It was remarkable because all the media could do was turn on the cameras and watch.

Because the TV news guys (ALL OF THEM) think their viewers all have the attention span of a nit on a gnat's n**. That's why their "news" stories are a minute or so long and their news opinion jockeys rush their supposed analysts through their answers. Sitting with one person for an hour, unedited, is stranger in a strange land stuff to them.
Remarkable because the media was not allowed to place their slant on things...they were, for the first time in this election, unable to control/guide the direction of the information.

Agree with first para, disagree with second. Did Obama say he wouldnt agree to more forums like this, or that he disliked this format?
McCain asked obama to join him in 10 town hall type meetings. obama came back with one on July 4th (are we laughing) and another in the fall.
Considering his performance last night, we now know why.
Truly. He told on himself last night, that he was very selfish and self-absorbed--and still is.... too bad he's not able to prepare better, especially if he thinks he can be leader of a great nation. Hopefully a duped public can begin to see the Charade for what he is....if he had any self respect and integrity he would pull out now.

So IOW Obama did not say he wouldnt agree to more forums like this, or that he disliked this format. That said, I think the town hall meetings would have been a great idea. Big mistake to say no.
Last night was a great opportunity to give with the simple, pat, sound-bitey answers. McCain of course did that, Obama didnt. Easy, simple answers and treacly (and unverifiable) anecdotes are indeed what people love to hear, and surely Obama knows this. I admire that he just answered honestly, but I wish he'd been a little snappier.
