But under her leadership, the state of Alaska has requested 31 earmarks worth $197.8 million in next year's federal budget, according to the website of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), the former chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Keith Ashdown, senior researcher at Taxpayers for Common Sense, applauded Palin for taking "gutsy reform positions" on some issues, but said that her past practice on earmarks stands in contrast to the views of her running mate.

"Vice presidential candidate Palin is decrying a system that has been very lucrative for her state and that, at least to some degree, she participated in," he said.

Good. Some policy debate. After looking into it, I can say that I was wrong. She did use the system. She was only against it when Congress refused to send her money.

Bryan, please get real!

No governors don't submit bills to the Congress, but they most certainly lobby for bills and appropriations. If Palin did in fact lobby for earmarks for Alaska as reports suggest, then it is the height of hypocrisy to claim to be a reformer.

Nice one!

Seriously though, look for some clips and news stories outlining her former support for the famed "bridge to nowhere" which she now, naturally, claims to have been against, to appear very soon. Can't wait to see her explain that one.
