Campaign K-12: Did Palin Cut Special Education Funding in Alaska?

As previously stated she did not cut but in fact increased special education spending.
But a close look at budget documents by my colleague Christina Samuels shows that Palin actually increased state spending on special education.

Christina writes in On Special Education that these false charges spreading throughout the Web are driven by a misreading of the state's budget documents

there is enough to work with without this.

She cut the funding and there are many posts here from articles that prove she did. Sounds like a lot of denial spreading on this thread!

Sorry, she didn't.
A second part of the measure raises spending for students with special needs to $73,840 in fiscal 2011, from the current $26,900 per student in fiscal 2008, according to the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.

No, you just need to take your blinders off and do the math. It is pretty simple and concise.

As governor, Palin did not cut funding for special needs education. In fact, she tripled that funding in just 36 months

Your right, lots of denial spreading on this thread, but its not from those on the right. Even when faced with EVIDENCE that she hasnt cut funding, those on the left continue to put their head in the sand and their foot in their mouth.

OK, let me explain this ONE MORE TIME as other posters have tried already. Libs use a different kind of math when they try to determine if something qualifies as a budget cut.

I'll just make up some numbers to make it easier, OK?

Last years Budget....$500,000

Proposed Budget for this year......$900,000

Actual Approved Budget, $750,000

As you can see (get out your conservative calculator if needed) the budget actually INCREASED by $250,000. That fact is overlooked by the libs and instead of looking what was added to this years budget they only look at what was subtracted from the proposal.

This would be like asking your boss for a 15% raise and if he only gives you 8% you cry and scream that you got a pay cut. NO!! You still got an 8% INCREASE.

Palin INCREASED the budget for special needs kids AND the program for single mothers....the libs just use the wrong calculator.

Ah, that's OK. The more they demonstrate that they don't understand numbers, the more people will see the Dems can't be trusted with the federal budget.
