I've noticed a direct correlation between Obama's rising poll numbers, and the frantic swift boat attacks cranked out on this forum as well as on the campaign trail.

It appears, that like McCain, they are flailing around, throwing everything they can to see if it will stick. At the same time we see old school GOP strategists who are appalled at such an approach, and think the party needs to return to it's conservative roots. I certainly see a schism within the party, and quite possibly an implosion.

Have the GOP become desperate at this point?

Yeap, they are trying to start all kinds of rumors about Obama (he's a terrorist, a criminal, a fraud, his citizenship is not real, etc.).

You're defined by the company you keep.

This is the best thing that could happen to the GOP since Bush I in 1988 and especially since 1992-1994.

The risk is that the democrats, as corrupt as the GOP, will prop up the party as is after the debacle, in its own interest of course.

Figure it out.

You can also ways tell the difference between a losing campaign and a winning campaign. The winning campaign always stays consistantly on message and the losing campaign is trying something new each week like the campaign is skitsofranic or something. We saw this with Hillary's campaign during the primaries where one week she was proud to be on stage with Obama then the next week it was shame on you Barack Obama and the following week, she was mocking Obama. Hillary's campaign couldnt figure out how to beat Obama and it looks like McCain's campaign is having the same problem. Hillary was starting to gain some traction towards the end but by that time it was too late. Even if McCain begins to gain traction by focusing more on the economy, it will be to little to late and most will agree that they trust Obama with the economy over McCain. Bottom line, Obama has probabally run the smartest and best presidential campaign in U.S. history. That really says alot about the job Obama would do as president of the United States. His campaign was slick. He perfected the art of going negative while not being negative.

I have never seen a group of people lose and go so dishonest, lose all dignity, all respect, and all goodwill before in my life.

Like Steven Colbert said to G.W.B at the White House Dinner in 2006. The last remaining that support you still see the glass half full. But don't drink it, it is just backwash.

Lightbulb GOP meltdown: Have they become desperate?

Yes.

Desperate and whiney. It's not flattering. But with all the damage they've caused, this is the inevitable outcome. The picture's very clear. Has a two-term sitting president ever in hsitory not been involved in his party's campaign? I think they're setting new all-time records here.
