"A plumber is the guy he's fighting for" means that it is pretty silly to think that McCain is concerned about the average middle-class working man.
"How many plumbers do you know who are making a quarter million dollars a year?" is also mocking the fact that McCain picked this guy to be an example of how Obama's tax program is going to hurt people.

He's mocking McCain.
This is they way you perceive it. Each person will see this in the way they perceive it. I personally understand what he was trying to say.... but I think it might come back to hurt him on the 4th.
think this has been a become a bit of a witch hunt. Here's a guy who hasn't even endorsed a candidite and is being given the nth degree. And for what; asking a person a simple question about a policy! Its a completly ligitimate question to ask, regardless if it was a hypothetical question or not. Anyone in America should be given that right without fear form the media digging into his life. Who cares if he's a licensed plumber or an accountant or a hairdresser and just said he was a plumber. The point is that it he wanted to know Obama postion and it now seems that many others have that concern as well. And now because that concern has been voiced we have to make sure that 'Joe the Plumber' is some villian or liar. Let the policy be the issue not the person asking about the policy. Why isnt the Media talking about the policy that brought about this question instead of smearing this Guy
they are all about smearing ANYONE that dares question 'THE ONE'
don't you get it??
the media is up Obama's ass
with the exception of FOX
they are the only cable news that is will not bow down to Obama
which is why Obama keeps blasting them.
Morning Joe on MSNBC is fairly unbiased that is the only show I like over there anymore.
Joe will not allow bashing on his show.

"Fox will accommodate Senator Obama's desire to communicate with voters in this longform format," Fox said in a statement.
"We are pleased that Major League Baseball has agreed to delay the first pitch of the World Series Game Six for a few minutes in order for Fox to carry his program on October 29. Source (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=afp-baseballusamediausvoteobama&prov=afp&type=lgns - broken link)

They purposely chopped off the first half of the first statement, so you couldn't tell exactly what he was talking about. And they chopped off everything after the second, so you have no context.
The only people that this quote-mine will convince are already voting against Obama. They are people looking for justifications for their vote.
It won't hurt Obama one bit. But it does make the posters who are jumping up and down pointing to the clip saying "Obama's mocking the plumber! Obama's mocking the plumber!" look pretty damn stupid.
