In truth, I'm sure every candidate for President begins thinking about what they will say if they lose. Pretty good bet Obama has done the same too. That's just the prudent thing to do - in fact, it would be MORE prudent for Obama to have a speech ready for the simple reason that IF Obama loses, his political career is hardly over (since he is so young) and he could try again. Under such circumstances any concession speech he made should be a VERY GOOD one - one that is memorable and casts him in the best possible light.

It pays to keep in mind that in the hours before D-Day, Eisenhower had 2 speeches readied - one to read in the event of victory at Normandy and one to read in the event of failure. That didn't make Eisenhower a fatalist, simply a realist.

Complacency is the enemy. I don't worry about the Bradley effect nearly as much as the Milton Bradley effect--politicians playing all sorts of games.

TomPaine.com - America's Progressive Majority

June 13, 2007

"America is more progressive than people think - or, more precisely, than the conventional wisdom would lead them to believe. From the economy to social issues, terrorism to trade, Americans want politicians who recognize that we’re all in it together.
...
With terrorism turning against them, the conservatives have little left. Concerns about energy rise with the price of gas (doubled since 2000). Concerns about health care rise with the cost of premiums (up 87 percent since 2000). Concerns about jobs rise as more move overseas (3 million in manufacturing since 2000).

The country is heading in the wrong direction. Policy wonks with spreadsheets on living costs and income inequality can prove it; 73 percent of Americans feel it in their gut."

Don't fall for it. It is all intended to create complacency in the Obama movement. DO NOT fall for it.
