DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette, which had, at the time, a ban on the possession of handguns, so some Illinois lawmakers introduced legislation to offer legal protections to individuals who use firearms in self-defense. The bill passed the Illinois state House by a vote of 86-25, and the Illinois state Senate -- where Obama voted against it -- by a vote of 39-20.

I agree that it is usually not a good idea to vote based on one issue, but you shouldnt call someone dumb...its a basic constitutional right that is being taken away, overall that is an important concept to some. I dont own a gun, but I find the gun ownership issue to be important because of its constitutional relationship. If someone is willing to remove one constitutional right (depending on how one interprets the constitution) then it worries me that they may be compelled to do the same with other rights.
