"ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.

The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.

In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.

Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor's children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business."

I love these fiscal conservatives.

On another thread someone warned about underestimating Palin, I suggested that underestimating her in Alaska is one thing, underestimating her when real journalist are on the trail is a whole other matter. I wonder of the Alaskan press goes underground during all those days of darkness?

So much for being a maverick and standing up against corruption.

If she cheats on the little things how can we trust her. I think the IRS will probably decide that extra money is income to her.

I'd say that's the Republican creed - never use your own money.

Estimates show Palin assets top $1 million - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081002/ap_on_el_pr/palins_finances - broken link)

That lake in front of her house in the picture is the one fish cant survive in.

LOL, gotta love the irony. Also loving how "mavericky" has become a word. Wonder if it'll be added to the dictionary this year?

Of course, after November 4 "maverick" may become a dirty word in the GOP...

Anyone remember the old saw "Power corrupts. . . . and __________" (yes, I know how to finish that sentence, it just doesn't apply, in this case)

The only way to know for sure that a person with power is not corrupt (or corruptable) is to give them the power and to see what they do with it. Ms. Palin has flunked that test,( as well as the one on 2nd grade U.S. Constitution). There ARE folks out there who will NOT take advantage, just because they can. . . those who have "higher" values. I thought that was what we were getting when we elected Bill Clinton to office, but unfortunatly, only "sort-of". . . . . I think we have a real winner on the ticket this time. . . let's make sure the "supress the vote" team cannot outmaneuver the "will of the people"!
