Arianna Huffington: The Internet and the Death of Rovian Politics

Good huffpo article for huffpo readers. Huffpo attackers need not apply, it isn't that kind of story, and you're really just amusing us anyway...

edit: mods, feel free to put in general politics if you wish. i pushed post too fast.

Ah, I read this earlier today.

It truly is disconcerting (and lowers my opinion of McCain's personal character) that he chose to employ two guys who eviscerated him in South Carolina with race-baiting tactics. Truly is.

I'm glad to see the end of the Rove era. One of the most nauseating periods in American political history, considering that it even was successful in this day and age.

The only problem, a lot of McCain supporters, like him, doesn't know how to use the internet and would believe the lies.

My favorite line in the article, even funnier if it wasn't so true.
Quote:
At the time, McCain's reaction to the attacks on him was: "I believe that there is a special place in hell for people like these."

His reaction now? I have a special place in my campaign for people like these!

I understand what she is getting at but I disagree to some point. The end of the era of "Rovian" politics may be upon us but it is far from the end of dirty politics. In fact, I suspect the tricks and methods of a Rovian type campaign will simply become more sophisticated and evolved. Just as one might build a new prison and say... its escape proof... see Alcatraz. My computer is fully updated, I'm safe until the next new bug hits the web.

It may be the end of old school, but tech school is just getting rolling.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for blessing the internet. It very well may be the single post important vehicle to health of the Republic that is left.
