A golden window for McCain is about to close. He had the campaign to himself while Obama was in Hawaii. Commentators wondered if Obama was making a mistake taking himself off stage to visit his ailing grandmother. How has McCain used that time? It seems as though most of the focus is on the stock market and fighting in the McCain camp along with the 150K clothing discussion. Is he using it to make gains and if not why not? Wasn't this a golden opportunity?
Obama's getting positive coverage for taking time off to visit his ailing grandmother. McCain, on the other hand, made a huge mistake taking time off the campaign trail to influence legislators during the bailout negotiations.
Well, golly gee I just assumed they would use a day like today to release that "whitey tape." You know, the one we were promised as an October Surprise? October's running out guys, where is it?

But this is the time now for a major move even if keeping it above board. I really respect McCain for not going super negative on Obama while he is with his grandmother. However now was his golden moment for a new initiative while Obama was not available to respond. Certainly his staff should not be fighting now. I really believe he has a chance and so do some professional strategist. Unfortunately they don't work for his campaign.

This is such a great comparison between the two. You know what the big difference is? McCain made a big deal about "suspending" his campaign, trying to act like he could use this threat to make something happen. He bragged about it, and made a loud fuss. Way too mavericky a move--and not the way we want to see a President behave.
Obama, OTOH, quietly said he was going to take two days off. He was specific about when he would return, and told people how his campaign would be covered in his absence. He took time off for an emergency, not to try to act like "Super Maverick."
We need a President who behaves in a classy, dignified way.
This has gotten too ridiculous to the point of having "Joe the Plumber" tour. Ughhhh
