To reinforce what others have said above, because he needs to spend it on his campaign. These monies were very largely donated, in small amounts, by many many people who want to see real change in Washington D.C.. I am one of them. That's why we donated. We WANT our money used to get his message out there. If John McCain had decided to solicit support from his "average" supporter. . . . well, maybe not, we KNOW that he does not have nearly as many "average" supporters as Obama does. He did get a donation from Joe the Plumber, I heard. . . . .

It's because he has to spend it on his campaign. That's why people donated money to his campaign.
