I was just thinking about all the bickering over who is the best Presidential candidate, and asked myself this question... Are we doomed to be divided forever? Why can't we see eye to eye?

For the life of me, I cannot understand why someone that is making less than $200,000. per year would even consider voting for McCain, who by most accounts is just like Bush-for the wealthy. I think the wealthy can afford to pay more, we need to stop the greed now. I believe our economic status has proved that greed has caused most of the problems we are facing. Why should billionaires not pay the same as the middle class pays now? Why not give the middle class a break? We have been the ones paying, isn't it their turn?

Most of the Professors at the college I attend are all for Obama, and most of the students, that tells me a lot. The UAW (United Auto Workers) union are for Obama as well.

I believe that Obama will bring us together again as a nation, he is the only Candidate that can IMO.

Just my thoughts.

Carefully cultivated fear is a powerful thing. It has been throughout history and will be until the end of time. Education is the only way to break the cycle, and I don't mean just the type that happens in schools and universities.

You've just cited the two most dependably liberal groups in America -- academia and unions. I don't believe that the members of those groups EVER ponder the choices. They simply support the Democrat. Sorry, but I'm not impressed.

And, yes, we will be divided for a long time if the majority in this country, during difficult financial times and in a dangerous chapter of world affairs, selects someone who had one year of political experience at the national level to be our president/commander-in-chief. Would your university choose a professor with one year of experience to be its president during difficult times and not expect a fallout from the students, parents, faculty and alumni????? Use some common sense here, please.

You're probably the best example on these boards. I believe you have medical problems and are worried about social security?

And you've been brainwashed into thinking your best choice lies with Republicans???...LOL

Thats like a liberal voting Republican because he's concerned about the enviroment....Completely off the wall.

I for one hope we never do see eye to eye, but that doesn't mean we have to demonize, chastise, and condemn those who don't agree with our views.

We are only doomed if we look to the government as the savior of the people instead of looking to each other and seeing countrymen.

Too much home schooling and inbreeding.

if you tax the rich at the way obama says he will, then he can only expect to get about 140-150 billion dollars. the only way he is going to get his 3-4 trillion in new spending, is by taxing each and every american that works.
that means if you are making 12k a year, you will be getting new taxes put onto your tax bill each month.

on the other hand, republicans like to borrow and spend as much as the socialist liberals like to tax and spend.
both parties seem to forget that their is not an infinite amount that they can steal from the workers. sooner or later, people on the goverment dole is going to be higher than those paying into the federal coffers. when that happens, you will see either a revolutionary war or a civil war.
that is also the reason that liberals like to see guns taken out of the hands of civilians, no threat to their programs if they cannot fight back.

I'm an independent voter who studies the CANDIDATES. I don't march lockstep with a party as it seems most of the 'philes do. And if John McCain had the lack of experience that Obama does, there is NO WAY that I would vote for him.

But the biggest difference between myself and the likes of you is that I vote with THE NATION in mind -- not for what a candidate might promise people in my situation. With Russia seeking alliances with China and Iran, with Iran and N. Korea threatening us and expanding their nuclear capabilities, only a FOOL would vote for someone with next to NO EXPERIENCE to lead us at this time.

The primary responsibility of the President is to keep the nation safe, believe it or not.

The way I see it and since you asked, what really bothers me?

I see the left in this country as being ok. Those middle of the road guys, slightly to the left, are fine, though I disagree with some issues. However, what I see happening is those to the extreme left, hyjacking the moderate democrats and pulling them over. When we have the left stating and agreeing with things like changing the constitution, and attacking everything that seems to be traditional America. They forget what got us all here, is the values we once had. They have absolutely no respect for those values and want to pee on them and change them all overnight.

I have no major problems with middle of the road democrats. I just don;t understand why they are now being swayed by the lines of Pelosi and Frank and extremist leftist liberals?
