While some day coal will need to go, you cant push it out the door if there is not a viable alternative, (which there isnt at the moment).

retrain them to work in alternative energy? You do understand that coal is a primary energy source, and solar and wind is a suplimental energy source? You cant train people to move from coal to wind/solar until the alternative energy is viable.

Unless your now proposing that Obama is holding back on new technology that only he knows about, taxing the coal industry to death is foolish..

You would be surprised how many of our branchlines survive on coal fired power plants alone. Next to intermodal, it is the most commonly moved commodity moved by rail.

Obama is from Illinois. Southern Illinois is a coal community. He isn't and has never been anti-coal. He couldn't be and get elected in this state.

This is the latest BS from the right, the outrage timed perfectly to announce the day before the election and not give people time to research it and get the facts.

Your article is not exactly from a reputable, objective source. This is from their "about us" page:

"Your Latest News from a Christian perspective
Whether it's a story about prayer in public schools, workplace restrictions on Christians or battles for biblical truth within our denominations, the American Family News Network (AFN) is here to tell you what the newsmakers are saying.

AFN is a Christian news service - with more than 1200 broadcast, print and online affiliates in 45 states and 11 foreign countries - that exists to present the day's stories from a biblical perspective. We not only feature the latest breaking stories from across the United States and around the world, but also news of the challenges facing Christians in today's society."

Well, since the word "bankrupt" came out of his freaking mouth, your statement is quite ignorant.

I did not see any religious references or bias in the article, else I would not have posted it.

He told this to a crowd in San Francisco, so obviously they would be more open to it than say.. West Virginia.

I he says traditional coal facilities will go bankrupt under his cap and trade policy and the they cannot be built to meet the new regulations than what other conclusion can you draw?

Obama: "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket"

You have to wonder if he has any clue how many industries rely on electricity, and what this would do to the cost of the end products....and how many are simply going to go "belly up", because they can't compete with foreign imports...
Death nell for American manufacturers?.....

Bud

Also, coal doesn't just go to power plants, it also goes to paper mills and other large factory complexes.

Most coal miners are heavily Unionized, talk about their voting habits biting them in the rear...

Coal is used even in smaller building where I live down to residential dwellings, there's even a courthouse that still utilizes it. Actually all the coal mined here is used primarily for home heating. It's a much more expensive variety called anthracite, other that CO2 emissions it's almost as clean as burning gas. No smoke, no soot.... Makes it ideal for use in the home.
