Obama plan jeopardizes thousands of coal jobs (OneNewsNow.com) (http://onenewsnow.com/Election2008/Default.aspx?id=308516 - broken link)

He does know that severe taxes on our power companies will make electricity even more expensive for us consumers, right?

So he's going to give us free money, but find other ways to have it taken away, that's classy.

God-forbid someone actually care about the enviroment and be in politics. On a sidenote, the coal companies have made billions while not caring about the earth nor the workers removing the coal. To hell with the coal companies. There are plenty of other forms of energy.

At some point, coal has to go the way of the horse-and-buggy. If it doesn't, we will all be in very, very big trouble due to ecological damage resulting in water depletion, among many other problems. Coal workers will be retrained to work in alternative energy industries. Obama has been very clear about this. Their jobs will be safer, and they will probably earn a much better living.

Coal companies do not make billions, the power companies perhaps, but certainly not a raw material producing industry.

The environment isn't the point here, there are a lot of jobs and families at stake here, from the coal miners, to the power plant workers, to the railroad folks who deliver the coal (myself included).

Oh well, I guess we can all go into the "millions" of windmill making jobs Obama will have ready for us...

Except that none are no where near as cheap.

Just to head off the "McCain has a cap and tade policy too" posts his is completely different than Obama's. Obama's plan calls for auctioning off the carbon credits which is an immedite expense to the power comany which will be passed onto the consumer. McCain's plan will allocate the credits and slowly phase in auctioning over time allowing the comapnies to adjust to the new regualtions.

That is why Obama can truthfully say:

Quote:
Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.

Now we know you are extremely biased. Of course you would be upset. I suppose without coal, all rail traffic would cease to exist???

Jaysus, thank goodness I'm locked into my electric rate. If Nobama wins, I wouldn't be able to run my AC in our brutally hot summers. But he could care less.

I believe its something like 60%, so yes it makes up a significant amount of railroad traffic.
