I read Obama's Dream From My Father and Audacity of Hope for a humanities class a couple of years ago. The copy I had also had the text of his 2004 convention speech. After reading, I thought, "Man, this guy would make a great President".
Then I remember a year later, Obama announcing his candidacy. He was a long shot. His campaign was small, and didn't receive much attention - this was Hillary Clinton's year. She had paid her dues. After a while, others kept on dropping out of the campaign, but Obama became more and more visible, and gathering more and more supporters. He was still an underdog, but his campaign kept growing.
And now I look at today. Obama won a decisives victories against the "assumed" Democratic candidate, and then against a widely popular moderate Republican. Reading his book for the first time seems so long ago now.
So the question is -- which of you have been here since the beginning? Which of you watched with excitement as he announced his campaign? Which of you were among his earliest supporters, who helped launch his nascent movement?
