It would be an overwhelming job to eliminate all those over the whole country who died after voting but before the actual election date. Traditionaly they have always been counted.
It's a symbolic gesture. One of the votes Barack Obama will cherish the most. It doesn't have an effect on the outcome, so there shouldn't be any nasty comments, I hope.
With all due respect to Obama's Grandmother and not that it made a difference I think a person should be breathing on election day if their vote is going to count.

The article stated that all deaths not reported by OCT 15th (the last day for asentee voting) would still have their absentee ballots counted
