Suddenly, it may be cool to be an American again | MiamiHerald.com (http://www.miamiherald.com/news/world/AP/story/758237.html - broken link)

Quote:
VIENNA, Austria -- She was a stranger, and she kissed me. Just for being an American.

It happened on the bus on my way to work Wednesday morning, a few hours after compatriots clamoring for change swept Barack Obama to his historic victory. I was on the phone, and the 20-something Austrian woman seated in front of me overheard me speaking English.

Without a word, she turned, pecked me on the cheek and stepped off at the next stop.

Great story. Frankly, I've delayed taking my wife to Europe precisely due to my disgust with Bush, et al, as well as the disgust around the world for that total nincompoop. With the dollar getting stronger, we'll get our passports updated and consider a trip to Germany / England once Obama is in office. At least I won't feel embarrassed to admit I'm an American, as I would've these past several years.

s/Mike

We're totally like... popular! Change! Yes we can!

I would have taken the kiss and then proudly proclaimed that I was a heartless, gun-toting, budweiser drinking, violent conservative and that she meant nothing to me... because it really wouldn't.

Frankly I would be very surprised if this actually happened. For some reason I no longer trust the press.

Default so cool

I told everyone I voted for Obama around the University next to my job and it made me look and feel sooo cool and enlightened. The fact that I voted for him proves that I am smart and not a backwards racist. Looking forward to some checks now and for change to start kick in and become dollars in the pocket. Can't wait to go overseas to other liberal places like Denmark(48% income taxes) and Sweden (47% income taxes) and bask in the coolness.

Screw the economy, Europeans like us now! Hooray!

By the way, I noticed during the Evil Bush years when everything was so terrible, the Europeans still took my money when I travelled there.

How does that work?

When traveling through Europe, on and off during the last eight years, many have approached us and asked how Americans would elect someone like W. I just shrugged and said that I voted against him, and there's no accounting for taste.
I can't wait to go back now. I don't have to dodge the questions or try to pass as Canadian.
