Absolutely, next time you seen someone in the Armed Services thank them with a cup of coffee or beer. It's because of THEM we're so fortunate.

I can't recall the "transfer of power" ever being made into such a big deal. Nor do I recall previous President-Elects calling very public meetings of "advisory boards" just days after being elected.

Before everyone hops into their partisan trenches to begin firing arguments, here's a thought....

The country is up Sh*tscreek right now. Bush knows it. He also knows his popularity, power and overall persuasiveness are in the toilet. I think he's doing a noble thing and Obama is in on it. Obama is doing what Bush would be trashed for--

If Bush met with a bunch of business leaders, we'd throw him under the bus for looking out for business instead of for the people. If Bush had further advice or encouragement regarding the economy, we'd all roll our eyes and ignore it.

Instead, they're both going out of their way to point out-- "THIS is the new leader. Follow HIM."

I also think the quick and very public "welcome to the Whitehouse" along with Obama's pledge to go over every executive order is for any who are watching overseas right now. Everybody's in the tank with us, holding trillions of our dollars, hoping they'll still be worth something in a year.

It feels like Bush and Obama are saying, "SEE WORLD? S-T-A-B-I-L-I-T-Y!! No worries!! Calm down!! Keep your money invested in ours!!"

Anyone else think they seem to be deliberately going over the top in the President-Elect transfer of power thing? Anybody else have theories on this?

I blew up the picture posted from the NYT site and noticed Michelle chose higher heels than on election night. (I learned this from the thread evaluating her election night dress.) Today, I thought she looked taller than Barack.

Could very well be that they're trying extra hard to present stability. Also, we're still at war so it's even more important to present that to the rest of the world.

I'm not sure how tall Laura Bush is. I think GWB is just shy of 6'. Obama is about 6'2". I don't know how tall Michelle is, but I'm guessing it's close to 6'. In heels, she's taller than her husband and in flats, she's almost as tall as he is. Her brother is the head basketball coach at Oregon State University so I imagine the tall genes are in the family.

Not that she needs my approval, but yes, I agree the red dress is MUCH more flattering that the black/red horror she had on the night of the election.

We are OSU fans and supporters and hope Obama will attend a game. I did like the dress she wore on election night, but I agree the dress distracted from her elegant long waist. The addition of the shrug jacket may have ruined the line of the dress as I understand it was strapless. The princess style she chose today emphasized her waistline. I wonder if Michelle is athletic and doesn't care for high heels, not because she doesn't want to appear taller than Barack, but because heels over two inches are bad choices orthopedically.
