For those on the other side of the political spectrum, McCain was a harsh reality for the party elders because he was never the type who would be willing to do whatever it would take to win regardless of principle. Going up against someone who wasn't restricted by such ideals, the outcome was more or less predictable. Now as Obama reneges on his irresponsible and unrealistic campaign promises and flounders on foreign policy matters, McCain will of course be there to help because the nation is more important to him than personal glory. Another example of this was choice of Governor Palin, it was motivated by his love of country and nothing else.
But the problem for the left continues to be the same thing. Palin has taken everything the left was able to throw at her, and she is still standing. Now she is the one in control. She can take her time to make her moves and establish herself as a national conservative figure. I believe in the years to come, the country will seek out conservatives to right all that will go wrong in the near future under Obama misleadership.
