The election cycle in the House is so short. The voters will remember what they do in a time of severe economic difficulty. Look at what happened to the GOP during and after the Depression. It took the party almost 50 years to recover at the national level.

The voters will remember how lenient the GOP regulators were with Wall Street, with those businessmen who choose to employ illegal immigrants, with companies who export jobs to developing countries. But now the GOP leadership prefers to stand in the way of delivering economic stimulus to an econom that has been shut down due to malffeasance by the banking industry.

The voters will remember.

Congress doesn't need Republican votes to pass anything. The GOP is the minority with no procedures to stop a bill from passing in the House. The senate requires 60 votes so one or two Republicans will need to be brought over to the Democratic majority. Probably the last few GOP senators in New England will vote with Obama.

No worry about Republicans & if the stimulus package helps the economy the GOP will be labeled as narrow-minded\ incompetent.

Thank God for those "obstructionist". When the GOP was in control, thank God for the Democratic obstructionist. No party should ram bills this big through congress without questions being raised.....when that happens, the Amercian people get fleeced.

Just an FYI, the current Republican obstructionist are questioning things like the 4 Billion in Obama's stimulus package that will go to organizations like ACORN (corrupt community organization that committed voter fraud and is currently being investigated). Anyone care to explain how 4 BILLION to ACORN will stimulate jobs????? Looks much more like a payback from Obama as a thank you for the voter fraud. Will it create jobs? No. Will it line the pockets of corrupt ACORN workers? Most probably. All at the taxpayers expense. Where is Obama's much talked about transparency?????? Just more fleecing of the taxpayer.

Or if in two years we're still in an economic morass, or worse, they'll be turned to to help the country out of this mess. Or better still, the people will finally wake up and go the third party route and get rid of both party extremists.

Actually the Republicans need to speak up vigorously, especially if the stimulus package ends up being a dud. The first bailout was a joke and the stimulus package is too full of pork. Obama is smart enough to know that, and has hinted that things should come out.

I think his big problem is his own party. I think he can deal with the Republicans and throw them enough bones to keep them happy. His problem is going to be keeping the Democrats from attempting to get too much revenge for being out of power for as long as they were. They are drunk with power and that is the scariest thing that can happen to any political party. We witnessed that with the Republicans during the Bush Admin. Too much power corrupts any and all politicians. That is is they were not corrupt to start with.

And shut up forever if it works.

Which is probably the main reason why they don't want to see it get thru. It will be political suicide.
