WASHINGTON (Feb. 9) - President Barack Obama will face a barrage of questions from ordinary Americans and skeptical reporters on his plans to reinvigorate the economy with a massive stimulus bill and additional billions in bailout money for the financial markets.

Two trips to cities hurting under the economic meltdown and a prime-time news conference are signs that Obama and his advisers are worried about a looming Senate vote on the stimulus bill, which failed to gather meaningful Republican support during rare weekend debate. The question-and-answer sessions will allow Obama to go directly to voters for grass-roots backing of his plans.

Maybe he should just do a little simple explanation and tell them this:
"The $9.7 trillion in pledges would be enough to send a $1,430 check to every man, woman and child alive in the world. It’s 13 times what the U.S. has spent so far on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Congressional Budget Office data, and is almost enough to pay off every home mortgage loan in the U.S., calculated at $10.5 trillion by the Federal Reserve." Bloomberg.com: News
I'm sure that will make the folks in Elkhart, Indiana feel better today.

I hope he reminds them that $8.7 trillion of that was committed before he took office.

...and so needed after the Barney Frank debacle. He can also remind them that he voted to spend that money, too.
