Okay...so, I assume you are referring to the Republicans as obstructionists. What then, pray tell, are they obstructing the Democrats from doing?

I don't know if you're referring to only the republicans because, they don't have the ability to obstruct anything now....it's too far out of balane for them to be guilty of blocking anything. I feel though, that this is something they're both guilty of.....they never try to work together....their both too busy campaigning for the next election. When one's in control the other tries to block everything they do until they can get back in control....it's a cycle that's getting to the point very little is getting accomplished compared to the way it could be.

I don't mean to pick on one party here but, a perfect example was when we trying to get the two Supreme Court seats filled a couple of years ago. The Dems were filibustering and the Reps were threatening to use some kind of an amendment against them, before 14 of them (the group of 14) had enough sense to put a stop to all of it. Then when the confirmation hearings finally did start, it seemed like Kennedy and Schumer spent more time campaigning than asking questions. In one round of questions to Alito, Schumer spent 29 of his 30 minutes talking without getting to the point and giving Alito a question to answer.

To be fair though, when ever a senator/rep tries to reach across the aisle and work with the other side, they put their future in jeopardy because, their core supporters are very quick to label them as "traitors". There's no such thing as compromise with the far left and right.

California is on the verge of bankruptcy....according to reports they won't be lonely for very long....New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Michigan may be joining them shortly. What do all of these great states have in common???????? The are Democratic strongholds that believe in taxing the hell out of the people that produce, work hard, are innovative, and carry the water. They then turn around and redistribute that income to the water drinkers, the non producers, the lazy, the illegal (you know that word means you broke the law) aliens. The scary thing is that on a Federal level we are now walking down that path....give the Messiah 8 years and you will no longer recognize this once great country of ours........

Because they had ACORN go out and forge tons of registration voter cards. Also, the minorities and poor came out to vote, because they were told the American gov't would pay for everything and they didn't have to do anything. Finally, what choice did we have for change. McCain really didn't want the job, that's why he gave up in Sept 08. Unforturnately on the 'change', we are headed to 'Socialism'. Way to go America! What are fore-fathers ran from to form a new country, and we are winding up back there! And, you really trust the government???? Whether your are democrat or republican, you can't keep your head buried in the sand that long, can you? Don't look at the politics of this mess, look at what's happening to our country. Don't let the media decide for you? Remember, the politicians think we, 'the public', are too stupid to think and know what's best for us. There in it for themselves! They don't care about.

But it’s also hard to convince the younger American generation of the European model splashed on there face. It’s not like this kids are stupid and can't see whats up!!

Examples of these are,

1) The vehicles the Europeans produce that people world wide admire and wish for…
2) The fine European styles of clothing people world wide admire and wish for…
3) The good wines, brandies, whiskeys, Champaign’s and etc. many people long for…
4) The splendid gourmet’s foods plus the chefs the Europeans have…
5) The private schools many rich Americans (including Republicans) send there kids to…

I can go on for ever and ever

The stupid Redneck mentality that many GOP members are stuck with will only drive us backwards in time.

In another thread a few minutes ago, I mentioned that I often hear about the "liberal media" from Republicans. Today someone told me that the reason Obama was elected was because (a) he's Black and (b) the media adores him

Although a and b are both 1/2 true I asked why 43 other elections didn't produce a Black president. Is the media brand new? How did Ford, Reagan and Bush 41 & 43 get elected if it's the media that elects presidents and it's always liberal?

Getting back to the topic, the only "issues" I see the Republicans working on are how to stop anything Obama proposes and maliciously criticize anything he says.

Colin Powell said yesterday that the GOP was going to have to come up with a better option if it is too succeed and not be a marginal party.

And you have just pointed out the current Republican Party's greatest fault. They will not listen to the moderates but will listen to the far right. The far right is a marginalized part of the party which has siezed control. As long as the far right will not work with moderates like Powell, they will never have the votes to win a national election again.
