I don't think that healthcare is a right to be paid by taxpayers.

One thing that is a problem in this country is that states decide which insurance companies are allowed to do business ( within their own borders ). If residents and businesses could decide to choose healthcare plans across state borders, competition would thrive. The cost of insurance would go down.

Instead, Barack wants to change the whole system, which we can't afford in the first place.

The government runs Amtrack. Billions of dollars in losses.

The government runs the Post Office. Billions of dollars of losses.

National healthcare? You've got to be kidding me.

America should not be the welfare provider for the whole world. ( Illegal aliens would also be covered ) ( Taxpayer provided abortions )

And in the worst economic situation in decades .... The Democrats are trying to shove an unsustainable program, to the tune of trillions of taxpayer money, down everyone's throats.

In fact our government is trying to sell something that hasn't even been ironed out yet. I'll be damned if I'll support a bill where Congress says "We'll just pass this 1,000 page bill now ..... and work out the details later."

No thanks Nancy Pelosi.

What are your feelings Oscottscotto?

Pay for something that will only add to the deficit?

Tell your kids to drink less koolaid. It will help them keep their teeth.

People who do too much meth loose their teeth.

You want me to pay more taxes so some meth addict can have nice teeth?

As usuall I completely disagree with Yooperkat. As I said on another post:

I prefer the Congress pass a simple single payer system funded by a combination of business profits and progressive income tax. My preference would eliminate the private health insurance industry and the excessive overhead created by their inefficiency and excess executive bonuses.

I'll make it easy for you. We probably agree that Americans have a right to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. Well if you don't have healthcare a little health problem like that spot on your face may became 4th stage melanoma and pretty soon you can forget about life. If you don't have life then liberty is pretty much mute. Finally, before you join Mr Reeper, you might either be worrying about paying for your ultimately futile chemo or mulling over your bankrupcy filling. I can assure you, you won't be a happy camper.

Yes but I am quite certain that individual would receive treatment regardless of ability to pay. Happens everyday.
What I would rather see:
Like with the school lunch program. If you don't have insurance the gov will provide you insurance prorated based on your gross income. Unlike school lunch programs and fed taxes number of dependents is not a factor. Set a family rate and a single person rate and pay accordingly.
If unable to pay put a lean against the individuals assets.
In short everyone pays their own way.

You should probably go ahead and move to Canada for your single-payer health care system then. It will be easy for you since you already live close enough. A single-payer system ain't goin' to happen here in the US even though obama secretly craves one.

BTW, the last time I checked, the US already uses a progressive tax with increasing percentage rates and all federal government services are overburdened due to "the excessive overhead created by their inefficiency".

The top rates on the current Income Tax system if far too low. It should have a base deduction of at least twice the median income and have a top rate higher than 90% with all income from all sources counted. That would provide plenty of money for a health care system by redistributing the money from government subsidized Military Industrial business owners and executives. Just imagine how much more money we could collect from the Kennedy, Bush and other rich families while providing health care and a tax break for the middle class.

That would work well. Why do you want to punish others for being successful? If you're not a wealthy and successful person, it's not their fault. It's yours.
