What I meant by that is that Chicago is so large and so Democratic that it wont elect a Republican.
As a Chicagoan who unapologetically leans liberal, I can honestly say I think that it has the potential to be toss up. I don't think that Alexi is a strong Democratic candidate and I do think that Kirk has the potential to be a strong GOP candidate (he's a moderate, and GOP moderates do get some attention in Illinois) if he doesn't alienate the Chicagoans who might come over to his side. However, if he plays too strong to the downstate vote using the "demonize the Chicagoans" campaign tactic I've seen before, then he may have a problem on his hands.
Didn't Mark Kirk push for the internet poker ban back in 2006? Does he have other statist tendencies as well?
