There is a world of difference between republican conservatives and democrat conservatives.
No, Burns was NOT expected to win.
Tell me, out of this:
Where is the spin?
ALL facts with statistics to back it up.
registration doesn't mean everything. Again look at voting registration in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, etc. the Dems held the seat for so long because of a well entrenched incumbent. No longer having an Incumbent in the seat opens things up quite a bit. While Bush didn't win it, he only lost it by two points in 04, Obama lost it and he won nationally by a much larger margin than Bush did in 04. Republicans were expecting to win this seat. Listen to their own comments on it.

Except for the FACT that LA, OK and KY are RED states.
There is a difference between those states and PA, a true blue state for almost 20 years.
The reason: its party registration is so overwhelmingly Democratic that even when lots of conservative Democrats peel off, a majority or near-majority remains for the party’s nominee

The Democrats have large registration advantages in those states just like they have a large registration advantage in PA-12. Yes PA is a blue state, but the reason its Democratic is not rural Appalachia portions of the state (which is what most of this district is) PA is blue because of Philly, its suburbs and Pittsburgh.
It's an interesting article. Here is a snippet I felt very apropos to this thread:
If Republicans think the way to a majority in November is by linking every Democratic candidate to President Obama and Nancy Pelosi — as Burns tried to do with Critz — then they are very much mistaken.

I thought this one was very apropos - by a democrat no less.
They're right. It doesn't change anything. It was no referendum on Obama, or anyone else. Pennsylvania is pretty stuck in its ways.
