Why stop there? Why not a black Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson? Why not have a white lead in Othello? Why not have an all white case of Roots? Seriously, you can have a british black double 0 agent but it would not be Bond.
I'm black and I think Bond should stay white and Shaft should stay black. There's no need to make all these changes to satisfy some people. If there ever was a black Bond, he would not be American.
Why not? If you can find an actor good enough to pull it off, whether white, black or Mexican, go for it. The major selling point of James Bond is his suaveness, his sophistication and his sense of humor. Few actors can pull it off, although I'm pretty impressed with our current James Bond, Daniel Craig (even though the last Bond movie, Quantum of Solace wasn't that great). Find an actor to pull it off well and I don't think race will matter at all. After all, why does James Bond have to be the typical Englishman? In fact, I've always thought that Andy Garcia (a Cuban American) could have pulled it off well, along with Jude Law (who is English).
