I'm soon to be a military retiree and we are considering retiring in Eugene.

Does anyone have experience with the VA and retirement benefits available in the area for medical care? How far is the closest VA hospital and do any of the clinics in Eugene take Tricare?

Do you find yourself commuting to larger facilities further away most of the time?

Thanks!

Roseburg and Portland. There is a clinic. Most VA Care involves travel by bus.

Steve's correct. If you're in reasonable health only needing to go down once a month or so it can be manageable - if you were needing weekly appointments (now or in the future), or were reliant on others for transport I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks everyone, this is great info. I am in good health and should only require the occaisional visits to a VA facility. How about Tricare providers in Eugene itself, is it difficuilt to find a provider that takes Tricare for the regular stuff?

You won't find Eugene to be any different. That is why they run the bus to Portland and Roseburg.
