I've got a couple months to pack up and move from the northern California home (near Crescent City) where my family has lived for over 60 years. At 70, widowed, I'm ready to move near my daughter in Eugene, Oregon. I'd like to be where I've got a straight shot to the beach when I hunger for the heady aroma of dead fish.

I need a 2 bedroom house, have a 7 pound dog with good manners who is never unsupervised, and would like to be where we can walk out the door and head for a nearby park...not a dog park, but a people park where dogs are allowed.

I'm not accustomed to cities, night time lighting outdoors, traffic. I just want a peaceful, quiet little space with a small yard. I have a limited income and won't be earning more. Any ideas will be much appreciated.

You can look on the craigslist Eugene ads. Also open up the yellow pages and get the phone numbers for property management companies. The property management companies sometimes have websites where they list what they have available.

You've got a big list of requirements. You might have to compromise on some of your wish list.

You should consider Florence. It's an easy one hour drive from Eugene. It would be closer to what you are used to. The climate would be similar to what you are used to. Traffic and nighttime lighting would be the same as Crescent City, or less. There would be plenty of places to walk your dog, and you would be just minutes away from the beach. Florence has a lot of retirees.

Eugene is not a small town and traffic can be extremely heavy at times. I think you would find the peace and quiet you are looking for in Florence.
