Is it possible to work in Denmark knowing very little Danish?

having many danish friends and friends that live and work there i have generallly heard the same things. English will get you by if you are working in a profession that doesn't involve customer service or public contact. With customer service positions however (retail, restaurants, bars&lounges, hospitality, etc etc), then proficiency in Danish is expected. Of course working in the tourism idustry, or in a tourist oriented business, would be the exception to this. you should do it man, i have thought about the same thing. if i were able to sort the visa thing out, i was even thinking to find a flat in Malmö and then commute over the öresund bridge to Copenhagen for work, since the cost of living in Sweden, and especially in Malmö is much less than that in Denmark, and the wages in Denmark are generally much higher...this would be hard to pull off as a non EU resident though.

Thanks...living in Malmo sounds interesting but I'm not sure if it would be possible with the working visa. Do you think it would be possible to live comfortably on the wage of say a waiter or something in Copenhagen? Would it be asking too much for some left-over change to do a bit of travelling around Europe?

I'm interested in Denmark too, or Sweden. Always have felt a weird calling to Scandinavia in general.

Been there done that when I was still in school.
Right next door to Tivoli Gardens across form The Statue of Hans Andersen, was a rather good restaurant where I worked for a week or so (cleaning off tables), then used the money earned to travel around.
But ... the year was 1960 ... before you were born ???

To those who live there now, is it still there ?

the easiest is to find a job in the capital city, so in Copenhagen. my experience shows, that there is always a lot of jobs available for English speakers in capital cities (also in other big cities, but rather those well connected with the world), so you should try.
