????? They think the UK takes Eurovision seriously? Haha. We can put Adele, Emeli Sande etc on it and we would walk it. It is seen as cheesy here, no Europe country, or any country outside the USA, can match the UK in terms of music quality.
It is not like other Western European countries takes it very seriously either. Last year, Norway sent a performer who could not sing properly.
Quite obviously it is the British themselves who take it too seriously, not to mention that they take themselves far too seriously. If they would throw away the blame game, and just have a good time at it. But it seems their national ego can't do that.
Send David Cameron in drag , and let him sing while doing his famous finger-wagging routine. A sure winner!
How do we take it seriously if we send pop stars who have one single released? Other countries use their "premier" stars. We would win 90% of the time if we sent out "premier" stars. Can you imagine if Plan B or Adele went to Eurovision? They would never live it down!

I think if there's one nation that knows how to laugh at itself it's the UK. As a nation that has produced so many amazing artists the Eurovision Song Contest is a farce, albeit an occasionally entertaining one
I don't think Eurovision is fair. Countries that do not have so many neighbouring countries can't stand so much chance. It will be better if countries stop voting and will just have judges doing it.
We just don't want to finish last.. 2nd to last is almost as good as winning.. actually, it might even be better.
The whole thing is done for fun. Last year there was a small campaign to get everyone in the UK to vote for Greece as there was no way they'd be able to afford to host it. That's how seriously we take it. it's a laugh, nothing more.
I have to agree with the above posters. I don't think many people take Eurovision seriously. It is known for its outrageous and zany acts. I have to admit there might be a reasonable song in there as well but they are few and far between.
I don't think the UK takes it seriously otherwise they wouldn't send people like Englebert Humperdink and Bonnie Tyler. They might be good singers but they are from a bygone era.
I don't think any successful act would compete at Eurovision for the very fact that it is looked on as a bit of a joke.
The Eurovision is very popular as a bit of light hearted entertainment and people can laugh at some of the outlandish costumes and badly phrased songs. It is a bit of a poisoned chalice to win as you have to host it and that is an extravagance that a lot of countries could do without.
Even the voting patterns are part of the Eurovision experience. There are always boos when Greece and Cyprus exchange their 12 points. No one takes it too seriously least of all the UK.
