Britain has threatened to leave the EU since the first day it joined. What's the news really?

There is a lot of political posturing, but the chances of the UK leaving the EU are slim. For a start, David Cameron - the person in charge - has made it clear that he does not want Britain to leave the EU, and didn't even want an EU referendum in the first place - but he has to try and appease to the Tory backbenchers.

So you don't think there any chance this will happen in the next future, even if things worsened on the economic level ?
It's the latest news in 2014 if even the threat has been made before

Exactly.

The Conservatives have promised a national referendum on the issue in the next Parliament but we shall see.

The EU could certainly do with reform, and the ECHR is also unpopular in the UK. However in terms of the EU reform is one thing, actually leaving is another.

Of course it won't happen. Britain benefits far too much from being in the EU (huge free market) but it likes to say so to keep other countries at bay.

As Theodore Roosevelt said "they talk big with a soft stick". It's been years since there is periodically talk of the UK leaving the UE. Won't happen. My only fear for them is that one of these days they give up the £.
