Experiencing the Netherlands. I know an American can't grasp the idea a constitutional monarchy can be very democratic, it's okay.

Queen's Day is on April 30 anyway, this year it's just going to be even more massive. Usually there are over a million visitors to Amsterdam on Queen's Day, I can't imagine how many there will be now From 2014 onwards, it will be held on the 27th of April (Willem-Alexander's birthday) and it will be renamed King's Day. Except if the 27th is on a Sunday, which it will be next year, then it will be moved to the 26th.

Well...yes, some Americans can grasp quite a few worldly ideas!

Best regards, sincerely

The Netherlands has been rated as the 10th most Democratic country in the world. The top ten also includes Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany and Austria, the home of the rating.

USA not world's most democratic nation - English pravda.ru

The Netherlands has been a constitutional monarchy since 1815 and a parliamentary democracy since 1848.

Sorry to see her go! My maternal family is ethnically Dutch and always held Queen Beatrix in high regard, with one of my relatives in the Netherlands named for her. Sad to see the old girl go. She had a special connection to my country, Canada, having attended primary and secondary school here during World War 2, when she and her family lived in Ottawa. Every year the Netherland's sends that city thousand of Tulip bulbs in thanks so their time there is easily remembered by all. More than anything, they're remembered for being very down to earth people, refraining from luxuries and pomp while in Ottawa and just living an upstanding but simple life. I hope that the legacy of great friendship between Canada and the Netherlands will remain as strong under the King's reign as it did under the Queen's

I hope there will be a little less rioting in the streets as compared to Queen Beatrix' coronation in 1980 .

Please stay on topic! The topic is Queen Beatrix from Netherlands, and not the British Monarchy.
