I'm planning a trip in two weeks to either Paris or Lucerne and I can't decide which one! I feel like I should go to Paris just because it is such an iconic city but then again, I live in the US and I've never been to New York.lol I love Wales which made me think I'd like Lucerne better. It will be my mother and I and we just want to do lots of hiking/walking and eating...thoughts?

I was in Lucerne in December... it's an incredibly beautiful city in a beautiful natural setting. Even in the middle of December it was phenomenal, magical I daresay. Like a city out of a fantasy novel.

That being said, I see little basis for comparison between the two cities... I mean, Paris is gigantic compared to Lucerne. I think the biggest thing to think about is whether you want to visit a massive, cosmopolitan city or a relatively small town? There is certainly plenty of hiking and eating to do in both cities. But I think how long you plan to stay may be a factor. If it's just a couple days, I'd say Lucerne because I feel like Paris would require a longer stay just to see everything and really experience the city. If it's a week or more, I'd recommend Paris because you can see everything in Lucerne in a day or two. On the other hand, Lucerne is very close to Zurich, Bern, and most of the rest of Switzerland if you want to see other cities.

Paris is a huge city, with all the downsides of huge cities. ANYWHERE in Switzerland is SO. SCENIC. Not to mention, low crime.

If you are going to stay 2 weeks why don't you visit both? You have enough time and they are not so far.

Paris has plenty of atractive touristic places to visit, Luzern is smaller but more cosy, the wooden bridge is awesome and the atmosphere is so cool. Ypu can also visit the sorrounding cities such as Zug, Zurich, south Germany etc. as Luzern is not so big.

Beautiful picture Bluefoxwarrior! I'm sorry I should have clarified, we are taking a trip IN two weeks not FOR two weeks We will only be there for about 4 days...I wish it was two weeks! Definitely leaning toward Lucerne...
