Genetic testing has showed that the Icelandic people are half Irish and half Norwegian/Danish. Are there any connections to Ireland apparently in modern Iceland, or is the character of the country purely Nordic despite the biological kinship to the Irish?

There are a few words in Icelandic that sounds English, yet Iceland has more in common with its former colony Denmark than the UK or Ireland.

Some of the Icelandic sagas are dotted with Irish names. Some of the ones I'm aware of are

Njal's Saga (from the Irish name Niall) and Kormak's Saga (from the Irish name Cormac). There are others as well showing the Icelandic connection with Ireland.

I'm also aware of Irish people going to Iceland and the Icelandic people commenting to them about their Irish ancestry.

Here is a blog written by an Icelander about some Irish connections.

Probably no more so than Denmark or Norway. I'd be wary of jumping to conclusions reached by those genetic 'tests.'

Well the connection was acknowledged even before the genetic tests. The Icelandic people keep very good genealogical records going back to settlement of Iceland. They know their history very well and acknowledge the connection.

Genetic tests are pretty accurate. There is also the history to back this up.
