What does this have to do with the article? My guess is nothing ?
You guess correctly. In the actual quote from M. Lassalle, Islam was nowhere mentioned -- but austerity was.
And the MoDem party to which he belongs is -- by French standards -- a mainstream centrist party. If the OP wants to hear from French people who are afraid of Islam like he is, I recommend perusing the oeuvre of Marine le Pen instead.
France is a beautiful country and I love it, but the main reason for its problems is its people. A lot of them are too arrogant and stuck-up to admit they're ****ing up, which is never a good strategy to get to a solution. On top of that, they tend to have a depressing outlook on life in general. You'll be hard pressed to ever see a French person jumping around from excitement. They just aren't a happy bunch.
I'm generalizing here, of course. But I am not surprised by reading this.

The economy of Spain is completely in the ****ter, and Italy has serious trouble, too. And don't forget about Portugal, either. I wouldn't be surprised to see these countries ending up the same as Greece.
I'm still pissed about Greece, by the way. Those ****ers lied about the state of their economy when they got into the EU, and when they were about to go under, everyone had to save their asses. The way they handled taxes and finances for the last 20 years is absolutely insane. Even a child would have seen it coming.
Denmark is the only Scandinavian country in that list, by the way. The economies of Germany, the Netherlands and especially Denmark are solid. Here in the Netherlands we feel it a little and the job market is a little slow, but all in all, it ain't bad.

I guess you better hope people didn't bother to read it, or they would know the French MP makes no mention of Islam, Sharia or the Welfare State. I mean, I'm sure you could find a news story in which somebody else also has issues with these things - but you look rather foolish trying to reinforce your issues with them with this article, which makes no reference to them.
...In any case, the current and next few generations will probably not enjoy the same relative high standards of living as the current retiree and previous generation or two. That, in a nutshell, is the much ado about nothing.
Otherwise they'll be fine.
Barring some disaster, of course, natural or not.
Good Luck!
And this is the situation in the U.S. as well (good grief, that fact is life blood of a huge number of threads in C-D forums), and the UK too. It is not a French problem exclusively, it is a problem in many well developed countries which are finding themselves under a great deal of economic and social stress.
