This article interested me. My husband is Spanish & is very dedicated to marriage, does not want to split. His grandparents (on both sides) have never divorced, his mother has always been in a relationship (married, but his father is deceased, step father passed away last March) & his sister is also dedicated to marriage. They are from a small town in Valencia, Spain.
So is divorce only common in big cities? Or is it just fairly easy to regulate? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I read an article about the divorce rate in Italy being fairly lower than the one in Spain, but I don't know if they are the same? Divorce rates sky-rocket in Italy - West
I think more women have been in the workplace, and having some economic power engenders a different way of dealing with infidelity. I think more Spanish men are on the prowl when compared to men from other countries. Just my experience.

Really, DH says that Italian men are more womanizers, but then Spanish men/Latinos have that "Don Juan" stereotype too...
Not really, actually it is the opposite. The article is from 2008, prior to the crisis, since then the number of divorces in Spain has decreased. Divorce proceedings are an expense that people want to avoid at times when they need to save money.

I would not say it's common only in big cities, IMHO it is more related to the level of religiosity of a family.
The reason why the divorce rate is so high in Spain has to do with the philosophy of Carpe Diem as a lifestyle that has spread around the country since the end of dictatorship.
Marriage is just an agreement. How many of you have never broke an agreement?
