Take a plane or train to your target destination. Line up some rural areas and rent a car. Spend a few days in the country. Avis, Hertz, Budget and other international companies that are well known in the US are all available in major national cities in Europe.
Amsterdam is not worth 3 days. Munich is OK. The mountains in Austria (The Tyrol) are just a short train-ride away. In Italy, travel to Tuscany or Umbria. The SE Adriiatic coast in and below the Abruzzo region is even better in many ways, cheaper and more friendly. Sign language works and many families in the South have relatives in the US. Just stay out of Pescara.
Thanks for your opinion but I've paid for my place in Amsterdam and think 4 days isn't to long. My family lives 1hr drive from Austria. Sorry no trains for me. I want to see Europe.
Those other car rental companies are the same if not more than the one I'm using, Sixt.

No, not yet but will now.
Looks like they're only in Austria which isn't what I need.

OK, then better ask your Muenchen Family to make the reservations for you ?
They ARE in Germany, believe me !
But, if you do go with them, do make sure your car is in *good working order*.
They tend to have older cars. So *buyer beware*
Open the hood and check for damage on electrical wires from rodents chewing on them,
(a common thing in Germany !!)
Do a really good walk around and note previous damage, inside or out !
(goes with any rental !)
I went and I had a blast. I will say Venice isn't my cup of tea. I liked Murano much better. I wished I stayed in Amsterdam and Gmund am Tegernsee (where Uncle lives) more. I put 2300km on my rental and enjoyed every bit of it besides getting pulled over 170km outside of Amsterdam by the German police. Why they pulled me over I have no clue. The Autobahn is very nice but one must pay attention to the constant speed limit changes that are abundant. I got my rental up to 180kmh. I probably spent 20 euros on restrooms for the both of us as even some places still charged even if you bought something there and even restaurants. Finding parking anywhere is hard and it's impossible to find free parking. We even went to a local grocery store that charged for parking and even charged for a shopping cart.
I really hated leaving and coming back to Houston. The closest I can get to living where we stayed is Colorado which I can only dream of doing.
Places we went
Amsterdam
Tour to Cheese and Windmills outside Amsterdam
Drove from Amsterdam to Gmund am Tegernsee
Went on top of the mountain when there was snow and on our last day when it was melted and on a very warm day.
Went to Salzburg, Austria for a few hours
Drove Gmund am Tegernsee to Venice
Tour to Dolomiti Mountains (worth every penny)
Took water taxi all around Venice
Drove back to Gmund am Tegernsee and from the south end to the north end on SR249 https://www.google.com/maps/place/It...2cf55c24635e6f
Then stopped in Achensee, Austria to take pictures
Everyone who isn't going to the Dolomites when in Europe is missing out big times. That's the place where I want to get old
