With one of the coldest, stormiest winters to date in Europe, this is truly astonishing:
Men's races in Garmisch canceled due lack of snow
January 19, 2014 - Associated Press
GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) — A men's World Cup downhill and a giant slalom scheduled for Feb. 1-2 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen have been moved to St. Moritz because there is no snow in the southern German resort.
I agree , it's been abnormally mild in Paris this winter up to now, the daytime temperatures practically never fell under 10° C. Not that I complain, but it's another proof Global Warming is a reality.
And it's not "doomsaying". Independent scientists (not the IPCC) have predicted an overwhelming 4°C increase at the end of the century, and the liberation of poisonous methane gas from under the permafrost. The **** soon will hit the fan, and I don't care if some people don't believe it. They're in for a damn surprise.
It has been a very mild winter rather than a very cold one. We didn't even have any below zero degrees Celsius temperatures over here this winter. Something that has not happened before as far as I can remember.
There have been some bad storms in the UK and other countries, but that doesn't mean it's cold - the opposite in fact. These low pressures from the Atlantic make it milder.
I can just see the people sitting on benches in the parks or at outdoor tables of the various cafes.
And you know if you're in the Alps under the circumstances I'd suggest keeping one's eyes peeled at the receding glacier areas. You never know. They might find another 'Otzi'. He was the famous 'Iceman' found in a rocky area at the Hauslabjoch. 5000 years old! With the warm weather perhaps other 'Icemen' can be found.

"To date, more than 80 bodies have appeared from the depths of the glacier."
