Depends where, the US has some great coffee, especially in the Pacific Northwest.
Not really. Been there, done that. Peet's Coffee in the Bay Area is ok. There's some local coffee where I live in NM that's ok. Mostly I dilute it with milk, as in lattes, anyway. Not much of a coffee drinker, tbh. But Starbucks' is too caffeine-y, and bitter. And their shops are too kind of institutional and boring.
The thing we found amusing about coffee in France is that no matter how many times you asked for coffee before or during your meal, you never got it. It either came with desert or not at all. After a few days we started asking for it just at see if they would bring it- they never did ! But we still loved France !
Yeah coffee kinda sucks in France, and I used to live on the French Riviera and when you cross the border to Italy and stop at the FIRST motorway rest area, the coffee there is already much better than anything you can find in France.
I never understood why we don't make coffee like Italians in France, we should make coffee exactly as Italians do, it shouldn't be so difficult.
Coffee in the US is quite bad too, I mean you can find great places in big cities, but you won't drink a good coffee anywhere like in Italy.

Dude, buy a moka and then you'll have a good coffee.
That's how Italians do their coffee.
Most American coffee is swill. In Europe, American style is simply watered down. There might be some good producers in the US, but no way do they come close to Italy or France.
OK, what's in a name ... ?
There is a cake in the USA called German Chocolate Cake.
Never seen the same thing in Germany !
In Germany, they have a cookie called *Amerikaner*. Never seen one like that in the USA !
In the USA, we eat a lot of *French Fries*
Actually not a real French signature item. More Belgian origin than anything else ...

Likewise, the US has 'English' muffins, but we don't.
