Too funny to think of America as exotic. Although some people in Scotland think I'm exotic and they love my strong American accent. LOL. It's midwest. Boring.
Lot of Brits say I'm from a very exotic place (Puerto Rico), but I think it's pretty boring and don't think coconut palm trees are particularly beautiful and exotic to look at (they're just trees to me, they're everywhere). So, BajanYankee does have a point.
I know almost anyone can buy a flat or a town house in USA. It might be using a credit.
Purchase a flat in the country where I live is a very difficult business.
Accordingly I envy the life in America.
My friends and family are not only impressed with cities like San Francisco and New York. I mean, you've got mad Nigerians and Bajans moving to places like Houston (and loving it). Miami is also tremendously popular.
No matter what country people are moving to, they will generally be attracted to its cities. Most Americans probably have no desire to visit--little less live in--a whole host of small to medium sized cities all over England.
I'd live in Bristol on near Brighton. I'd also live in N Wales ,specifically the Prestatyn area. I have lots of friend in the UK though, so I tend to visit places ourside of London. I love Wales and really like seeing second tier cities in the UK.
To the poster who as about knowing the differnce between England and Great Britain
England , Wales , Scotland = the countries on the island of GB
England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland = UK
The English are British but not all British are English. My Welsh friends would hurt me if I called them English
Unfortunately a lot of people don't know this, including Bank Of America. An ATM at The Millenium Center in Cardiff ate my credit card. When I called BoA, they said they turned it off because I had notified them I was going to the UK but trying to make a transaction in Wales. Apparently, they didn't realize Wales in the UK.

Well, if you're American, then it would be funny to think that way. It's also funny to think of France as this exotic, magical place (if you're French, that is).
Life on either continent is good for the Top 2%. Those are the people who can afford luxury flats in Central London, Paris, New York and Miami. Life is pretty mundane for everyone else. Work, school, taxes, suburban neighborhoods with few "exciting" things to do (i.e., bars, clubs, street performers, "vibrancy") home maintenance, raising children, etc.
Many parts of the UK are also very provincial. The internationalism and cosmpolitanism of London doesn't apply to the UK across the board.
Living in London does not appeal to me. I love my pretty, quiet and charming corner of Scotland. And the ease of traveling to France, Belgium and annual trips to London.
So then are we just comparing American suburbia to European suburbia?
Idk, I guess we are comparing your average Joe middle class citizens from each region.
Most middle class average Americans live in suburbia.
I believe most middle class average Europeans live in more urban environments.

What percentage of American population is NOT completely tied to their personal automobile without which they practically can't go anywhere or do anything? Probably 10% or less.
The question is actually simple: how many Americans actually walk or take transit to buy groceries? I just bought my milk, cereal and fruits on foot last night (7 minutes walk).
I know and I'm not one of those urbanites with a superiority complex so I don't automatically view that as a negative thing.
