Different countries use different measures for counting unemployment. The US tends to undercount unemployment; people who give up looking for work aren't counted. I'm not saying southern European youth employment isn't much worse than American, but the difference might be a bit smaller than the numbers suggest.

Doesn't our U6 count those not seeking work? In that case it's around 14-15% I think. Which is in line with some European countries

Yes. And?
You don't see a difference between 23.9% and 13.2%?

Youth unemployment in Portugal is 36%

And is there really any point debating about this? You have a country like Spain where half the youth cannot find jobs. So at this point, there is really no point talking about great Spanish QoL and architecture!

Unemployment rates drop in the US by more than half for people with college degrees. And where in Europe do you have places like Silicon Valley (Comp Sci) and Research Triangle (Biotech) where 1000s of students out of college can get great high paying jobs?

Sure ..... there might be differences. But can you show me some evidence to suggest that US youth unemployment is under-counted to a large extent vs Spain/Italy? I mean .... is the unemployment in the US really close to Spain and Italy? Are 50% of the youth in US unemployed?

Did you hear of college students in US rioting?

Heck ... the US is still importing STEM workers from India and China to fill hi-tech jobs!

No, it does not. I could be wrong, though I don't feel like double-checking at the moment

And if southern Europe is far higher than the Euro average, other parts of Europe must be much lower than average. Those parts may be relatively close to US levels.
