I rented a car which was really cheap at the time but now their prices are not competitive anymore so I'm looking for an alternative car rental company.
I have never rented a car in Europe but have been doing a lot of researching for an upcoming trip and i have been seeing very good rates on Europcar and Sixt rent a car.
many times it is cheaper to look at rental car pickup/drop off locations not by airports or train stations.
I've also heard good things with Europcar and Sixt. As mentioned above, rent at a separate pick up / drop off location. Might require a short taxi or bus ride, but you'll save the airport / train station fees.
Also bear in mind, Automatics are typically more expensive (and less common) than manuals to rent. If you decide to save money by going for a small, economical car it'll probably have a manual gearbox.
but the way to be cheaper is to look on a website like rentalcars.com becuase they are somehow able to offer cheaper deals and they happen to offer full insurance so that saves you more money as well. perhaps they buy rentals in bulk and then resell so they can offer lower price? not sure. but the difference between going direct to the rental agency or going thru oneof these sites can be 300 euros for a week (especially if you go full insurance)and get a big car for afamily trip
Sixt, based on only one experience on a trip to Bled, Slovenia. They delivered the car to the place I was staying and picked it up there, too, after i left. Price was under €30/day for a week.
I would also recommend Sixt, especially in Germany.
