I'm curious about the location of my family's origin. Does anyone know what particular regions of France the following family names are located or originated from?
Bordelon
Chiasson
Prejean
Benoit
These four family names are my own (Bordelon) and of my closest relatives.
The 2 firsts (bordelon and chiasson ) are ...*rude* words in French (and no I won't translate them), so I guess you wouldn't want to know.
Benoit is an exceedingly common name in France, my neighbour on second floor is named Benoit. It's also a relatively common first name in higher, conservative social classes. Prejean is also a common family name, more rural (it means literally "John meadow).

Paternal grandmother was Prejean
Maternal grandmother was Benoit
Maternal grandfather was Chiasson
Paternal grandfather was Bordelon
Other relatives family names, though not as close range from French to Spanish origin. Angelle, Castille, Albarado, and Babineaux are among my relatives.
Benoit (usually spelled Benoît in French) is also very common in Canada. As a first name and as a family name.
Chiasson is a very common Acadian name in Canada's Atlantic provinces. It is also found in Quebec. Keep in mind in French the word ''chiasse'' is vulgar slang for diarrhea. The name might be a derivative of that. But no one ever thinks of that here because we've heard the name so often.
Bordelon is not a name I have ever heard in Canada. ''Bordel'' BTW means bordello or brothel in French. It can also mean a chaotic situation. So bordelon literally might mean someone who was spawned by one of those two things.
I second what Acajack had to say about Acadian surnames. Those are Acadian names, mostly. So it'd be safe to say that some of your ancestors came to Acadia from La Rochelle, a port city in western France (in the old region of Aquitaine). Your ancestors probably came from the region immediately around La Rochelle, like most Acadian settlers.
If you dive deeper into the genealogy, you might find that your family names originate elsewhere in France. I have an Acadian ancestor whose lineage goes back to Brittany.
