There is no preference on this forum.

I think it's in your own head that you see it.

I think southern europe is not as mad as people think and northern europe is not as structured. there are pockets of fun and stability in both places.

This. Although I would add that the pockets of fun and stability are also influenced by their respective cultures.

I am not European and here is my take on this:

South Europe: more culture, better art/architecture better food, better weather, more outgoing people, better looking people, more fun.

Northern Europe: better economy - that's it.

I was tend to favored in northern half of the Western Europe before I enter to regularly watching threads here. Thanks to the Europe forum.
Now I am viewed in equally distributed both sides as different aspects and it's safe to say fall in love with Mediterranean Europe.

The North is cold. The South is warm. The beaches are better and the water is much warmer. Food is much better in the South. People are more vibrant. Things cost less. This is why so many people in Northern Europe take their vacations in the South and many retire there.

Northern Europe generally has a lot more crime. The crime rate in Sweden is almost three times that of the US, and seven times that of Spain. Similar thing with the UK, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, etc. Crime is relatively low in Italy, Spain, Greece, even lower than America.

Would be interesting to see a citation for those statistics.

Countries Compared by Crime > Total crimes per 1000. International Statistics at NationMaster.com

The stats are from 2002 so could vary, but in general crimes rates drop at around the same rate per year in industrialized countries.

I do think Sweden is any more dangerous than Norway and Denmark. Rape, for instance, is often severely under-reported in most other countries.

Crime > Rape rate: Countries Compared

Sweden: 63.5 incidents per 100,000 citizens
Norway: 19.2 incidents per 100,000 citizens
Denmark: 6.4 incidents per 100,000 citizens
India: 1.8 incidents per 100,000 citizens. Yeah, right
