Thinking about moving to Berlin. I'm American and looking for a place to rent. What regions can I find cheap housing? I don't need much, only a home

What is Berlin like??

I don't mind staying outside of berlin, but i'd prefer to stay as close as possible

I don't have much money

What types of places would mostly likely hire illegal immigrants?
