In terms of what floats my boat, I find Vienna OK but hardly the best. The cities on this list which I deem notable are 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15 x 2, 18 and maybe 19. The rest I deem sleepy and boring. This list seems to be oriented toward people who like quiet and don't get into night life. It's more for the 7AM hot yoga, ride your bike everywhere, get off on perfectly clean air crowd. Not to say those things are bad, but life is more then sitting in New Age utopia chanting "Ooooooohhhhhmmmmmmm!"

If San Jose, CA were included in the survey. It would come out on #1! Best economy, low crime rate, lots of fun areas, great health care, weather and political stability They need to include San Jose in future surveys.

Misses out on being a city, though. I think that is required.

San Jose is a real city with a real downtown! San Jose is over 1,000,000. The high tech capital of Silicon Valley.

Wait, so Vienna is sleepy and boring, but Zurich, Munich, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt are exciting? Makes me wonder if you have been to any of those cities.

Well, technically most of the top "cities" aren't really cities. The most admired true cities are further down the list.

I mean, how many people would honestly rank Auckland, Frankfurt and Aberdeen ahead of Paris, NYC and London?

Vienna is not very exciting, IMO, but compared to Zurich, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt is like the most exciting city on earth. Munich is somewhere in between.

I don't know a single thing about Auckland, but Frankfurt being on this list really baffles me too.

Well i've lived in san jose and outside of zurich

Regardless of anything else, San Jose, like many suburbo-american cities is a combination of traffic headache, cultural void, stress, and boredom. People go to work their 12 hour day at Qualcomm and then pick up takeout on the way home and not much else.

Zürich gets a dull reputation, but it's got a lot more going on than San Jose. Plus it's nice.
