183 is pretty normal over here. Most people i know are around that height. I'm 181 and never once felt short in my life.

Out of southern Europeans the tallest are former Yugoslavians, especially Bosnia and Montenegro:

Because lack of proteins - milk, meat. Hungers, etc.
But the increase in height has been tremendous among young people.
Probably the weather or being hunter-gatherers, barbarians were much taller than Romans.

It varies. I have meet a few and they were all in the 5'6"-5'8" range and looked very middle eastern somewhat like Yemenis.

I read somewhere that it was related to sleep, as people in cold countries traditionally slept more in antiquity. Some sort of human hibernation was practised.
