Next sunday 1 October new elections for Catalonia independence will take place but... In case that Catalonia becomes independent, will Catalonia be a part of European Union? What about the currency? Will they still be Spanish? Do Europeans require a visa to visit Catalonia?
I was just reading about this. These people are ready to vote and to secede from Spain. Good for them.
I haven't followed this up to this point but I just heard the Spanish government has a cruise ship in the harbor in Barcelona. It's filled with national police. I don't think they intend to let the vote go ahead.
I'm not sure it has to do with national pride, but more about the atrocities committed.

Past atrocities shouldn’t really matter when discussing the future. History works best when it’s used as a source of knowledge, not when used to justify political points. If Germany gets blamed for WW2, then we need to take into consideration all events that took place in history and that’s a can of worms you don’t want to open. We either take history in its totality or ignore it completely.

Now you say one region "kills" another region again when the people who killed are all dead. Countries also don't invade, its the politicians at that time
The question for me is, why do so many people there want to split from Spain?
Are they not treated well? None of the cantons of Switzerland want to break away, despite speaking 3 or 4 different languages.
Catalonia is treated well, but not as well as Basque Country and Navare - they manage their own taxes.
Independence is just just a chimera -a bluff- to obtain the same tax regime than Basques.
Independence is not possible.
Catalans are a minority here, and Spanish living or born here are Spanish if you sratch a little.
What does it mean? Forget your selected place to vote and your allocation. Now you can vote everywhere in an illegal system where it's all done by paper and pens. So you can basically vote if you want in 5 or more different places and you will have probably 5 votes just for yourself. Knowing how corrupt and liars are them, they will probably put your 5 votes as valid if they're for the YES.
Cheating has been caught in ballot box. The ballot box had already hundred of votes for YES even before starting the "votation" So this is people from the world, this is how it works! Illegal referendum where at most 1 million will "vote" and probably some 2-3 million votes for YES will be shown up. If not more. This is an utter joke just like in 2014, but this went even to a bigger joke phase.
Why do Spanish speaking countries break up so easily? If we look at the americas which used to be colonized by Europeans, the Mexican empire, gran Colombia, rio de la plata were once large Spanish speaking nations all broken up into various small Latino countries
On the other hand, United States, Brazil and Canada expanded and held themselves together to become major nations in the world (G7 or BRICS).
