I'm Irish and horrified at what is happening in Europe. Highly vaccinated countries are imposing restrictions and locking down once again. What on earth is going on? This is never ending. Get your booster shots everyone or Christmas is canceled, oh but you can still go to work. That's fine. How long are people going to take this and who are the fools defending lock-downs at this point?

These mitigative shots mitigate the risk of hospitalization and death.

These mitigative shots do NOT mitigate the risk of infection.

In fact, they increase the risk of infection because of the FALSE sense of security that they imply but do not actually provide.

Reality is humans have to live with the risk of infection.

Humans may choose to mitigate the risk of infection in ways other than the mitigative shots, because the mitigative shots do NOT mitigate the risk of infection.

The currently available mitigative shots mitigate the risk of hospitalization and death before infection has occurred.

There are also currently new pharmaceuticals awaiting approval that mitigate the risk of hospitalization and death after infection has occurred.

There are also in the pipeline preventive pharmaceuticals that could be applied directly into the nostrils at the point of potential infection.

As it stands right now, the currently available mitigative shots are inadequate by themselves, and to some extent they even add to the confusion.

As a result, restrictive measures and lock-downs are implemented and re-implemented periodically, seasonally, until a critical mass of people no longer fear the risk of infection, and the pharmaceutical companies have shot their load.

Good Luck!

The problem is those who invoke fear on the population are those who don't seem to want it to end especially since for some reason the more tough a stance they take the more popular it makes them among the general population. Fear is a powerful weapon but how long can they keep this up

Looks like many people "Agree" judging by the 80%+ dislikes. Wait, youtube is planning to ban dislikes too?

People vastly overestimate the efficacy of vaccines and underestimate the efficacy of NPI. The only way to assure relative normalcy is border restrictions and wearing a mask until the whole thing is over.

I agree partially.

I do not calculate it in terms of an only way, but in terms of all ways.

Both lock-downs and social distancing and masks and preventive mitigative shots and curative mitigative shots and what ever else helps, all at the same time when and to the extent possible.

But doing it piece meal and preaching an "only way" - which doesn't really work - backed by confusion and fear and coercion is more profitable for fewer for longer.

Sounds a lot like an organized "religion", doesn't it?

But believe in "science", of course, confusion and fear and coercion.

I speak from experience. Other than May to July this year there hasn’t been any disruption in life here, very few have died from Covid and the economy is doing well (3% growth in 2020 and 7% in 2021). The only major restrictions in life is the mask mandate and strict border control. Europe on the other hand has had several lockdowns, millions have died, and the economy is in shambles, but people still refuse to listen. It’s monumentally stupid.

Yes or no, it sounds like dogma, doctrine of the proletariat in Marx's words. Basically dictatorship of the stupid people if you will, so called "peasant oppressed class"- these are the same people who used to believe in "science" in eastern europe decades ago and worship everything "smart" atheist germans say. This is the problem of authoritarianism. The real problem is covid paranoia, it's not rabies, bubonic plague of mad cow disease but for as long as some people make money and the stupid majority allows them...you get what you see.

Well, there goes my trip (again) to Germany to visit family. This time, though, I've already spent $2500 on a ticket. Good times! (That was a round trip ECONOMY ticket by the way - first class was $8000).

I am so sick of all this.
