3. Your dedication and commitment to real exercise (not walking around or "working in the garden" sh*t)
You'd be amazed though how many miles you can walk without leaving your property just doing that "sh*t". It's not as glamorous a way to do it but it does still burn the calories. At least for me it does. My weight loss correlates almost perfectly with the number of steps i take in a day, regardless where those are.

Yeah, right, that is when the neighbours call the mental asylum folks.

For mowing and carrying yard clippings back to the compost pile? I actually logged 5 miles one day without leaving the property. Of course I do dedicated exercise (walking, cycling, swimming, as well as sports like tennis) besides but I wanted to make the point that moving around doing normal stuff can be beneficial compared to sitting on a couch or in a cube all day long.
2 lbs a week is both reasonable and healthy. I personally have lost that eating fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and some fish mostly. I also add in whey protein, which seems to be effective in getting some of that stubborn mid-section weight off. Add in some walking 30-45 minutes a day.
I'm 44 years old, and I just lost 15 pounds in five weeks. I was cast as the lead in a play, and I wanted to look leaner. I was in a high normal weight range to begin with (starting BMI 24, ending 22). Oh, and I have hypothyroidism, so yes, it can be done.
Here's what I did. I ate 1200-1500 calories a day combined with a cardio burn of 400-600 calories a day (I work out at a gym) and strength training. I also hiked trails three or four times a week.
I used an online program called My Fitness Pal to keep track of my calories and exercise. If you've got an iphone/itouch, it's a free app that syncs with your computer.
It wasn't hard at all. If you've got the incentive and stay focused, you can do it. Also, I found myself choosing healthier foods because I got to eat more of those foods within my calorie range. Now I still track the calories because I want to maintain my weight.
Congrats !!! and also inspiring ...
Did you also observe any plateau effect during your cardio training ?
I observed that, initially I lost weight while doing cardio but in a few weeks the weight remains the same even for same exercise routine and diet.

35,000 divide by 35 days = 1000 calorie deficit per day.
You can burn about
300 calories doing 30 minute HIIT 40 seconds normal pace, 20 sec fast.
Add another 30 minutes and call it a cardio day.
So that leaves 400 calorie deficit only on cardio days.
Do some resistance training 3x a week, burning maybe another 300 cals.
Call it lift days, needing a 400 calorie deficit only on lift days.
That leave rest days, but at a calorie deficit of 1000 cals.
Let's say a person need 2,500 calories to maintain that weight.
1,500 calorie days is still doable twice a week.
Summary Example
Day 1: cardio day
60 minute HIIT cardio
400 calorie deficit diet
Day 2: lift day
30 minute HIIT cardio
Lifting
400 calorie deficit diet
People claim to have lost weight just with diet. But it's a long, patient and slow process. If you are a food lover, you will hate your life when you go through it.
YMMV here. I lost weight on weight watchers with very little exercise.
